Project “Sources”

“Sources” is a photographic series created between 2022 and 2026, developed over three years during the ongoing war in Ukraine.

It was born from my personal experience of living through war as a state of fragility. At a time when I felt groundless — afraid for my own life and for the lives of those I love — it became essential not to lose myself: not to lose sensitivity, not to lose the ability to see and create beauty. These works became a way of preserving what remained alive within me. The series is composed entirely of my own photographs: Ukrainian land, fields, rivers, flowers and grasses, as well as women. By merging these elements, I construct a visual space where the female body and the landscape are no longer separate. A silhouette dissolves into the texture of soil; a face becomes terrain; flowers resonate as memory.

This is not a documentation of war. It is an exploration of a woman’s inner condition — a space where fragility transforms into resilience. Two self-portraits are included in the series, underscoring the personal nature of this project. It is a story about me — as a woman and a mother — striving to remain alive and sensitive in dark times. “Sources” speaks of the inner forces that exist within us — forces nourished through connection with nature. It reflects on the strength of native land, which sustains us even when everything around is collapsing.

It is a meditation on memory — the memory of one woman, and at the same time, of many women across the world.
